Join us for a unique movie night about Koinonia Farm this coming Sat evening at 7:30/8 pm! We will gather in Bryn Gweled’s Community Center, with a Zoom link for those who wish to attend from afar (see below).
BG Community Center address is 1805 Meadow Road, Southampton PA 18966
The program will begin with a few remarks and slide show by Barbara and her sister Sue Atkinson, who travelled to Koinonia Farm in January. Sue Morrison, current resident of Koinonia and our gracious hostess, will give information on the Farm past and present. And former resident and member of one of BG’s founding families Bob Dockhorn will describe the involvement of the Dockhorn family during the early years of both communities.
Next we will show the documentary film Briars in the Cotton Patch.
“Possibly the most daring social experiment in the South in the last century, Koinonia Farm faced years of terror, boycotts and intimidation in the years leading up to the tumultuous Civil Rights era. Broadcast on PBS TV stations nationwide from 2005 – 2010, this award-winning film is a compelling chronicle of heroic humility and uncommon courage…By filmmaker Faith Fuller, the film shines a spotlight on the farm’s spiritual, peace-loving mission and the hatred and hardships they endured as neighbors, the KKK and segregationists vehemently — and sometimes violently — expressed opposition to Koinonia’s vision of peace, love and racial equality.”
After the movie we’ll continue with Q&A and discussion.
Refreshments – including several delights from Koinonia’s Farm Store including pecans – await those who come on person to the Community Center, beginning at 7:30 pm. The program will start at 8 pm. 1805 Meadow Road, Southampton PA 18966
