In Celebration of First Peoples
Join us this Sunday as we welcome back two dear friends of the Pebble Community:
Chief Barbara Bluejay Michalski
Chief Barbara Bluejay Michalski was given the name Bluejay by her grandfather, Bill Thompson, late Chief Whippoorwill of the Unalachtigo (people near the ocean) Tribe of the Turkey Clan. She is a member of Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania (LNPA), and she has immersed herself in the activities of the Nation. In October 2022, she was appointed Chief Keeper of Culture. Bluejay serves on the Tribal Council and was the Tribal Secretary until May 2024, when at that time she became Vice President. She is one of the Storytellers of the Nation. She loves to impart Lenape history to children, work to preserve the Earth, learn and teach about traditional medicinal plants, and study the Unami dialect of her people.
Dar Khabazz is of Cherokee descent and studied with a Lakota shaman. He has experienced both Lakota and Cherokee tradition and philosophy over the last 40 years. Dar was involved with Pebble Hill for decades and his mother offered sweat lodges to the community.
They will lead us in rituals of the season and speak on the practices of gratitude and caring for the land, including the sacred ground on which Pebble Hill Church stands.
Rev. JoAnne Wolke and Barbara Atkinson of First Peoples Alliance (FPA) will lead the celebration.
Chief Bluejay will have books and items for sale from the Lenape tradition.
FPA is collecting clothing and shoes, new and slightly used, to send to the groups we work with on the reservations this winter. Please bring them to Pebble this Sunday or next. We will be accepting donations for the shipping costs.
Join us in the Red Barn or on Zoom at 10:30am.
