The Emotions in Motion is a group designed to create a safe container for people to receive support and to also support others at Pebble Hill Church. In addition to offering support, it is the intention of Emotions in Motion to provide a space where individuals can learn tools that will help with processing emotions in a safe way and become informed about possible underlying core beliefs that may help or hinder one’s aspirations in life. Some of the other features of this group include understanding the concepts of accountability, learning about shadow, clearing emotional charges that keep a person from staying fully present in one’s body, and healthy boundary setting. Creative role playing and other exercises will be used as part of this group.
Emotions in motion is not a therapy group, but yet can provide tools, supports and resources that can be considered therapeutic. Emotions in Motion will be facilitated by Janet Berkowitz and Gary Schoenberg who are long time members of Pebble Hill Church.
Janet is trained in intentional peer support and offers self-help to others on trauma and suicide awareness and prevention. Janet has valuable lived experience as a person in recovery from mental health challenges. Janet has completed the Women Within Training and brings her skills from working with others through the mixed gender group sponsored by Women Within and the New Warrior Philadelphia Community.
Gary Schoenberg is a licensed psychologist and has over 35 years of experience in the mental health field where he oversees behavioral health services for a non-profit community mental health center in Philadelphia and also provides mental health counseling to individuals. Gary has completed the New Warrior Training and has participated in trainings to support and initiate other men. Gary is an active participant of an ongoing I-Group in the Philadelphia area as part of the New Warrior Philadelphia Mankind Project.
