Pebble tradition calls for a “guardian angel” to smooth each new member’s path into the community, so we need to develop a list of members willing to take a newcomer under their wings. The demands are small: a week or two before New Members Sunday, spend a little time getting to know them–perhaps talk over coffee or lunch. When the big day comes, stand up with them and introduce them to the community, sharing what is most interesting and lovable about them. In the following few weeks, help them settle into the community: continue to be available, introduce them to others and show interest in their progress. You will be their mentor and friend. This is not a task, it is an opportunity! Could anything be nicer?
