August 1st Celebration – Peace Sunday

Susan Manningdelivering a sermon on the universal anguish of protective mothers made to send their sons to war.  Peace Sunday memorializes the dropping of the world’s first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945, killing 80,000 residents in its immediate blast and fire, and then thousands more from wounds and radiation.  The day is remembered around the world as Hiroshima Day.  The bomb’s ghastly effects ignited a global movement to ban nuclear weapons and promote peace.

We normally announce the winner of the Alma and Harold Abel Peace Award at our Hiroshima Day celebration, but we had to postpone that until the fall.

If you are unvaccinated, we require you to wear a mask. With the increasing dominance of the Delta variant, if you are vaccinated, we strongly urge to wear a mask for your own protection. Our building is well ventilated, with a scientific air-flow to reduce virus buildup.  We provide sanitizer and masks for those who need or want them.

We will also be selling tickets to the OnenessFest which takes place at Pebble Hill on August 7th from 10 am to 9pm.  Our own Gary Culp will be a part of the festival doing a workshop on Mayan Cosmology and a presentation on Crop Circles.
