Juneteenth Celebration | Happening @ Michigan

Juneteenth is an observance known in the African American community for 150+ years, but little known to the larger US population.

Some think the date marks the end of slavery.  This is only a “little bit true”.  On June 19, 1865 the Union Army reached Galveston, Texas with the news that SLAVERY HAD ENDED WITH THE EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION on January 1, 1863.  Up until the Civil War ended in April of 1865 and Union troops reached remote pockets of the states which had seceded, many enslaved people DID NOT KNOW THEY WERE ALREADY FREE PEOPLE.

Two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation!

In this turning point time we are in, we are all discovering the American history WE WERE NOT TAUGHT.

May we keep our hearts and minds open to THE TRUTH.

Respectfully, Rev. Rosalind
