Aug. 16 Peace Sunday! Rev. Rosalind Cauffman will lead. The recipient of this year’s Harold and Alma Able Peace Award—a member of the Pebble community—will be announced!  Since we will not be meeting in person, the drawing for the Peace Dove will be postponed till that wonderful day when we are all together once more in the good old Red Barn.  This celebration reminds us of Pebble’s peace journey and the importance of working for peace, within and without, every day of our life—a quest made all the more urgent by the hatred and disfunction affecting the nation and the world in these troubled times.

Celebration starts at 10:30 a.m. Unfortunately, a resurgence of Covid 19 infections necessitates continuing virtual celebrations in August. Look for a link in the Pebble Announcements on Saturday or Sunday morning. And on the home page of Pebblehillchurch.org  The link will lead you to our virtual celebration.

Aug. 23 “Love, Oneness, and Politics: How to Effect True Healing”- Ramananda John E. Welshons Brings His Spiritual Teaching to Our Virtual Celebration!Rev. Rosaline Cauffman leading.   John says we live in a world of duality, where we see people at their best and their worst.  We struggle to live in the moment, but our minds feed us worries about the future and the past.  But now is the only moment in which we can experience life directly.

We need to cultivate practices that move us back into the moment—through sitting meditation or walking meditation, or whatever helps us to feel the present now.  That is the best preparation for whatever the future holds.  There is also great beauty in serving others, even in small ways, which can lead to a transformational sense of our oneness with each other.

When undertaking social action, great spiritual leaders teach that we must first cleanse our minds and our heart(s), so that our actions come from Love, Compassion, Kindness, and Generosity, otherwise, we will only cause more suffering.  Let us seek to restrain those who seek to do harm.  But let us never lose sight of the fact that those who tend to harm others are – themselves – deeply in pain from their own suffering.  So, let us act with compassion for all.

We who seek to make this world a better place need to hold hands and stick together… so that what we have to offer as an alternative to greed, selfishness, ignorance, and violence, is an alternative worth sharing – an alternative rooted in LOVE.

John is a highly respected contemporary spiritual teacher who lectures and leads meditation courses throughout North America.  He has been a practitioner of vipassana (mindfulness) meditation and various forms of yoga for more than forty years. In addition to his latest book, One Soul, One Love, One Heart: The Sacred Path to Healing All Relationships, he is also the author of Awakening from Grief: Finding the Way Back to Joy and When Prayers Aren’t Answered, two books that emerged from his thirty-five years of experience helping people deal with dramatic life change and loss.

John has studied world religions throughout his life, and holds a B.A. in Comparative Religions from the University of South Florida, and an M.A. in History of Religions from Florida State University.  He has also traveled and studied extensively in India. He is a gifted counselor and teacher who has worked closely with Ram Dass and Stephen Levine and trained with Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross.

His workshops and lectures are offered in personal growth centers, yoga schools, churches, hospitals, hospices, corporations, colleges, and universities. He is also available for one-on-one consultations.  He currently resides in northern New Jersey
