What is Chair Yoga?
Chair yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair.
These modifications make yoga accessible to people who cannot stand or lack the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions.
Many of the basic body mechanics of the individual postures are retained, no matter the stance of the practitioner.
While seated on chairs, students can do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends, and mild backbends.
In addition to a good stretch, chair yoga participants can also enjoy other relief of chronic pain, decrease of the instance of headaches, improved muscle tone, greater flexiblility and reported cases of better and more deeper sleep patterns.
Since Chair Yoga is followed by about a 15 minute meditation, people suffering with depression and other neurological disorders
have reported an increased and marked improvement in the way they feel day to day and an increast in self esteem and empowerment.
Who Can do Chair Yoga?
Chair yoga classes are being embraced in so many places: Gyms, shcools, retirement homes, Physical therapy settings…
so the answer is, most everyone can do chair Yoga. I do suggest, however, if you have challenges such as disabilities, injuries etc,
that you seek the approval of your doctor before the class. If your doctor needs to speak with me,
I will be happy to. Just have him/her call me at (856) 393-8824.
The best reason of all:
This type of yoga can be practiced anywhere. No gym to join, no special equipment.
You can practice this at your office, while sitting in your favoriate chair or just modify the poses so you can do them while you are out walking
or shopping at the mall. Yoga should really be a part of your life. Yoga is life altering, when practiced every day, trust me.
A Little about me:
